Parenting
Why - FFN deliver parenting courses in both groups and one to one. We do this as we see the value in parents talking and learning together with regards to their parenting. We acknowledge how beneficial parenting groups can be at all stages of our parenting and how if used properly can work as a prevention rather than solution to family breakdown.
What - FFN deliver a number of different parenting groups.
Triple P
is our newest programme. Triple P has been endorsed by Glasgow City Counsel and is being hugely promoted at the moment throughout the whole city. It’s a very good parenting programme that focuses on positive stategies in parenting and mixes in groups sessions with one to one follow on sessions. It also has the ethos of helping the parent come up with the solutions. Please visit www.triplep.net for more information.
How to Drug Proof Your Kids. We have been using this programme for many years now. It is an excellent tool to generate discussion and support among parents who have slightly older children. We would look to pitch this programme
at parents who have children aged 8yrs – 11yrs. This is the best time to be part of this programme as the course is designed to have the parent thinking about some of the changes that will inevitably happen to both the child and the nature of the parenting. This programme can also be used with parents of older children although a slightly different approach would be taken to the discussion focusing more on intervention and recovery, rather than prevention! Please visit www.dpyk.org.uk for more information.
Positive Parenting – Time out for Parents, Time out for parents with special needs children etc. There are a whole range of time out courses that we have available. This programme is very good for a short one off parenting session that engages parents and perhaps encourages them onto another course. Please visit www.parenting.org.uk for more information.
Who – Findlay Family Network deliver parenting groups to a number of different groupings. We deliver in local Nurseries and Schools, we have groups that run in our drop in Cafe throughout the year. We also would run groups at different times that would respond specifically to a certain need that presents itself from perhaps a few parents that we are in contact with.
Our aim is not to deliver parenting for the sake of delivering parenting we want the course material and subject matter to be relevant to the parents who come along, and so we would always try and make sure we had spent some time getting to know the parents informally before the courses start, to give us a better idea of what the needs may be and also to give parents the opportunity to discuss with us anything that they be unsure about. All the facilitators that take the groups have been fully trained in all programmes.
